Creating New Pathways

A farmer’s daughter, 15-year-old Girl Icon Muskan hails from a small village in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The state alone accounts for the largest population of adolescent girls living in underserved communities in India. Muskan has always been aspirational and a hardworking student. At the age of 13, she joined the Girl Icon Program which helped her to explore herself and identify her goals and aspirations. Her love for numbers has made her pursue a career in mathematics.

 

With two younger brothers and a younger sister, her father has always dreamt about her higher education so that she can create a path for her younger siblings. Despite weak economic conditions, her parents have always supported her to pursue her studies. After passing her 10th board exams with flying colours, she dedicated her time to prepare for the entrance test for the Government Polytechnic exam, through dedicated effort, she has been selected in one of the best Polytechnic Colleges in the State.
